Boating
From the private jetty you head straight out onto the Princess Margriet Canal and on into the Frisian lakes. The harbour on the grounds has room for a boat you bring yourself, up to 10 metres long and 3 metres wide, with a draught of up to 90 centimetres. There is a power socket on the jetty.
If you don't have a boat of your own, you can hire a sloop (open motor boat) or an electric boat nearby.

De Alde Feanen National Park and Eernewoude
Across the water the national park begins: reed beds, peat lakes and lots of birds. White-tailed eagles are regularly seen in this beautiful landscape.
On the edge of the park lies Eernewoude, the village from which most visitors set out into the area.

Warten is the village where Vrijzicht lies. It has a bakery and a restaurant, a twenty-minute walk from the house.
Grou is a few kilometres away, a well-known watersports village with terraces, shops and a marina. You can go there by boat to do your shopping. Eernewoude and Leeuwarden are close by too.

A fifteen-minute drive away is Leeuwarden, with the Fries Museum, the leaning Oldehove tower and a city centre to wander around for an afternoon.

Cycling, walking and the ferry
The area is flat and quiet, with cycle paths along the water. From Jachthaven Wartena, 'De Oerhaal', a solar-powered ferry for cyclists and pedestrians, takes you across so you can carry on from the other side.
